Basic feeding: protein and sugar

A healthy colony needs two food groups. Understanding the role of each one is the secret to active workers and a productive queen.

1. Sugars give energy

Carbohydrates are the daily fuel:

  • Sugar water or diluted honey.
  • Ripe fruit in small pieces.
  • Ready-made solutions, if you prefer convenience.

2. Proteins drive growth

Protein feeds the larvae and sustains the queen's laying:

  • Insects (crickets, mealworms, flies), killed and clean.
  • Offer small portions, a few times per week.

3. Less is more

Excess food turns to mold and attracts mites. So:

  1. Offer little and watch the consumption.
  2. Remove leftovers before they spoil.
  3. Keep the outworld always clean.

Tip: note in AntNotation what you offered and when. Over time, you'll learn your species' favorite menu.

A well-fed colony is a strong colony! 🐜
